At Upper Left Designs Studio, creativity is at the heart of everything I do. From the first spark of an idea to the finished piece, each product is an opportunity to explore something new, work with my hands, and create something worth sharing.
My background in graphic design and love for art influence much of what I make. Whether I'm painting, designing, or pouring candles, I approach each project with an appreciation for the little details that make something special.
Inspired by the World Around Us
Living in the Pacific Northwest, inspiration is never far away. The colors of the changing seasons, the textures of the forest, the rugged coastline, and the quiet beauty of nature often find their way into my work.
Sometimes inspiration comes from a particular place or experience. Other times, it's simply a color, a fragrance, or an idea I want to explore. I enjoy allowing that inspiration to take shape in different ways.
Art & Illustration
My artwork begins with an idea, a story, or something that catches my attention. Working in watercolor, acrylic, and digital mediums allows me to explore different styles and techniques depending on what I want to communicate.
I'm drawn to the balance between simplicity and detail, leaving room for imagination while capturing the character and feeling of a subject.
Whether creating an original painting, an illustration, or a design for print, I want the finished work to feel intentional, expressive, and distinctly my own.
Handcrafted Candles
Each candle is hand-poured in small batches using soy wax and carefully selected fragrances.
Creating a candle involves more than choosing a scent. From blending fragrances and selecting vessels to experimenting with wicks and testing how a candle burns, there's a process of refinement behind each one.
I especially enjoy creating fragrances that bring a sense of place or season into the home. A walk through the forest, the warmth of a cozy autumn evening, or the freshness of the outdoors can all become inspiration for a new scent.
My goal is to create candles that smell beautiful, perform well, and make everyday spaces feel a little more inviting.
Thoughtfully Designed Goods
Beyond paintings and candles, I love finding new ways to share my creativity through useful, beautiful, and sometimes unexpected handmade goods.
As the studio grows, I'm exploring more creative offerings, including art prints, digital designs, and projects that encourage others to create.
While the mediums may change, my approach remains the same: to make things I genuinely enjoy creating and would be excited to give, use, or display in my own home.

Having spent years working professionally in graphic design, I appreciate how much the details matter. From choosing colors and materials to designing packaging and presenting the finished product, I enjoy bringing each element together.
